Gratitude Journal

Whilst visiting with my Mum today she mentioned she had started keeping a Gratitude Journal; something she’d seen on Oprah ages ago, and she thought I should start one too.  My initial thought was “what have I to be grateful for”?!  After all the past few years have been filled with heartache and hard times, for me personally, as well as for my family.  Then I stopped and thought about it, and to be honest I have a lot to be grateful for.  No matter what pain I go through, there is always, sadly, someone less fortunate than myself. Going forward, whether I actually document it or not, I am going to try and find something to be grateful for each week.

This week I am grateful for my new job.  Back in 2012 I was made redundant from a job I absolutely loved, but unfortunately the company had to close.  I then faced several fruitless months of job hunting before finding out I I was pregnant and then sadly it turning out to be an ectopic pregnancy. The surgery and recovery meant I took a break from job hunting, but once I was ready to look again, I found a long term temporary job which ended just before Christmas, meaning I was job hunting again.  Fortunately, I had an interview with a local company the Friday before Christmas and within 30 minutes of leaving I had a call to say I’d been successful.  My first day was Monday and so far so good.

So, I’m grateful for my new job.  I’m grateful that it’s full time (although it was lovely having time to myself as I worked part time at the temp job), that it’s a permanent job, and that my co-workers and boss are lovely people who have made me feel so welcome.

Anybody else keeping a Gratitude Journal, and what are you grateful for?
